Using AI to Write and Submit Your Resume?

With the ability to generate and customize your resume for each job you apply for by using artificial intelligence, you might think that applying for as many jobs as possible, every single day, is the best way to land an interview.

It kind of makes sense, right? If you can use AI to apply for 100 jobs a day, chances are you’ll get a call back on at least one of them, right?

Well, maybe. Maybe not.

You see, while using AI to generate resumes has been a godsend for many of us, it’s actually become a nightmare for employers.

How so?

Well, because of the ease of applying for jobs using automated tools, employers are becoming overwhelmed with resume and application submissions generated by AI.[1]

As a result of being swamped with AI resumes, some companies have resorting to using AI of their own… defensive AI to screen out AI generated resumes in hopes of finding actual human written resumes.

This means that no matter how many AI-generated resumes you submit, you may be getting blocked by defensive AI anyway.

So, how can you get past the AI screeners if you’re using an AI generated resume?

Well, first, make sure your resume isn’t completely generated by AI. All of your real skills, all of your real education, and all of your real work history all belong to you.

So, make sure that portion of your resume is REAL. Make sure it’s you.

Why be real?

Well, outside of presenting yourself as a potential phony, many AI generated resumes are simply “stuffed” with job description keywords… keywords hundreds of other candidates are using AI to “stuff” their resume’s with…

And submitting to the same employers you are.

This has been causing employers to see a lot of resumes that look suspiciously similar, if not nearly identical.[2]

You see, that resume AI is writing for you… it could be writing the same thing for thousands of others too; nearly identical looking, with nearly identically “stuffed” keywords.

So much for having a resume that stands out.

Now yes, you can use AI to help format and clean up the grammar, etc… but don’t use a 100% AI generated resume. It could be screened out pretty quickly, never hitting the hiring manager’s inbox. Be yourself and let AI tighten it up.

In addition to submitting a resume that’s actually about you and your skills…

Harvard Business Review said something we completely agree with. And that’s submitting a well-thought out, personalized cover letter along with your resume. Harvard shows this can significantly increase your chances of getting a job.[3]

While some of us may think cover letters are unnecessary and “old timey”, they’re not. They give you a chance to actually stick out, in a more personalized matter, almost immediately as they normally get read first.

Now, just like with your resume, be sure your cover letter is real, and about you!

Oh, and studies show that you should apply for about 15-20 jobs per week. Not 100 a day![4]
