Job searches can be stressful. You’ve found a bunch of jobs you really want… You’ve customized your resume for each job, written a sharp, tailored cover letter… uploaded everything and you hit send.
And now you wait.
It seems like it can take forever, but just when you’re about to look for a new list of jobs to apply for, one of the employers you sent a resume to contacts you… and invites you in for an interview. Congratulations!
But the stress doesn’t end here. It’s actually just about to begin. You see, a huge majority of us, 92%, get stressed out in interviews.[1] Of course, there’s a good reason why.
You really want the job and have no idea what they’ll ask you during the interview, and all the possibilities may make you nervous. But you don’t have to be nervous.
You see, with a little preparation you can calm those jitters. It all comes down to knowing what they may ask you, and what you should ask them.
Today, FindYourJobNow.com will share some of the top 10 job interview questions you may be asked, and we’ll share some of the top 10 questions you should ask the hiring manager during the interview.
The whole purpose today is to help make you feel more confident… and to help get you hired!
Ready?
You’ll find the top 10 interview questions, according to Harvard Business Review, below.[2]
Keep in mind, we’re not going to show you how to answer them as you should be genuine in your responses, and they should not be boilerplate. They should be “you.”
Here we go:
#1: Can you tell me about yourself and briefly describe your background?
#2: How did you hear about this position?
#3: What’s your preferred type of work environment?
#4: How do you handle stressful situations?
#5: Do you prefer working on a team or independently?
#6: How do you stay organized when working on multiple projects?
#7: Over the past year, what have you done to improve your knowledge?
#8: What are your salary expectations?
#9: Have you been applying for other jobs?
#10: Your resume shows an employment gap, can you explain why?
These questions are likely to be asked (with the exception of #10 – unless you do have a gap). So, by reviewing them well beforehand and having genuine answers for each one ready, that interview should be far less stressful.
But just because you know what they might ask you doesn’t mean your job interview will be a slam dunk. To better your chances of getting hired, you should ask them some questions too.
By doing so, it not only shows you’re interested in them, but you’ve come prepared.
Here’s our top 10 things you should ask them:
#1: For this position, how is success measured?
#2: What kinds of challenges does a person in this position face?
#3: What is a typical workday or workweek like here?
#4: How long did the last person with this position stay?
#5: What are the six month and 1 year goals for this position?
#6: For this position, what separates a good employee from a great employee?
#7: Can you explain the company culture to me?
#8: What do you like most about working here?
#9: What is the timeline the company has for making this hire?
#10: If hired, could I get some materials beforehand so on day one I’m well prepared to hit the ground running?
