The Industries with The Most Job Openings

Feeling adventurous? Looking for a new kind of job in a new field? Or are you already happy with the industry you’re currently working in, but are looking for a salary upgrade?

Well, no matter what your feelings about the type of work you are looking for, whether it be something completely different, or the same kind of work you’re used to (but better) ... there are millions of different kinds of jobs available across America.

In fact, the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows there are 7.6 million jobs available in the public and private sector combined.[1]

Today, FindYouJobNow.com will share some crucial information with you about the industries that have the most job openings in the private sector, and the industries that have the fewest.

By knowing this info, which comes directly from the government, you’ll know where the highest demand for new workers is, which could give you some good leverage when it comes to salary negotiation time. Also, the information may help you avoid pursuing a job that there is very little demand for.[2]

Either way, this is great information for you to have during your job search.

With that said, let’s begin with the industries with the fewest job openings. The mining and logging industry only has 20,000 openings across the country. That’s about 5-7 times fewer jobs than the next three lowest industries with job openings…

Information, real estate and rental and leasing, and non-durable goods manufacturing. Wholesale trade comes in the bottom 5, with just 157,000 job openings. These five industries are ice cold right now.

So, if you’re looking to get a job in any of them, it’s probably going to be slim pickings out there. That’s why we want to concentrate on the industries with the MOST job openings. Or, as we like to say, the industries with the biggest need for new hires like you.

There are five industries that currently have over 1 million job openings. We’re going to rank them below from the fewest openings to the greatest number of openings.

Ready for them?

With 1,045,000 job openings, the trade, transportation and utilities need workers right now. But the leisure and hospitality industry need even more: 1,092,000.

The healthcare and social assistance industry seems to always need new workers and is right now in need of 1,384,000 of them. But private education and health services currently need even more than that: 1,551,000.

And the industry with the most job openings is…

Professional and business services, with 1,566,000 openings. In all, the private sector needs 6,720,000 new workers. And that means you!

But where exactly are the workers needed most?

Well, including public sector jobs, the South region needs 3,076,000 new workers…

The Midwest needs 1,681,000. The West needs 1,498,000 and the Northeast needs 1,344,000.

This means that no matter what region you live in, jobs are available!
