Put These Skills on Your Resume… You’ll Up Your Chances at Landing a Fully Remote Job

Remote jobs are highly coveted, for highly obvious reasons. But they’re becoming harder to get. You see, employers have become wary of hiring fully remote workers over the past two or so years, worrying about their hires not performing their jobs up to par… or not spending enough time actually doing the work.

If you’re getting paid for eight hours a day of work, you should be working for eight hours a day, after all.

As a result of some people taking advantage of “the system”, the jobs you’ll find today that are fully remote will likely be posted by employers who are looking for certain skills.

Skills that indicate you’ll not only be able to do your job at the necessary professional level, but you don’t need to be supervised while doing it. Meaning, those eight hours a day of pay will be for eight honest hours of work.

So, how can you improve your resume to better attract fully remote employers? To get a job with all the obvious benefits of working from home?

Well, there are 14 skills remote employers are looking for, skills that you should add to your resume, right up top, just below your summary.

They’ll help grab the attention of remote employers, giving you a better chance at getting hired.

They are…

#1 – Time management

#2 – Digital collaboration tools knowledge

#3 – Adaptability

#4 – Tech savviness

#5 – Focus

#6 – Data literacy

#7 – Communication skills

#8 – Writing skills

#9 – Problem solving skills

#10 – Customer/client focus

#11 – Emotional intelligence

#12 – Project management skills

#13 – Leadership skills

#14 – Self motivation

Of course, you might not actually have all 14 of these skills, and that’s okay. But you should definitely highlight the ones you do have, especially time management, self-motivation, digital collaboration and your communication skills.

While some of the other skills can be learned, like tech savviness and data literacy (and some employers may have no issue teaching them to you), having the skills that show an employer that you’re ready and willing to work those full eight hour days, without needing to have a supervisor check in on you every 15 minutes are essential in today’s remote workforce.

Now, even if you’re not looking for a fully remote job, employers still want you to have at least some of these skills. So always include them on your resume.
